About

I’m a techonology marketer, currently working as the Director of Marketing for WSO2.  Marketing has come to mean a lot of things for me, from generating new business through traditional advertising, branding, PR/AR and field marketing, to building awareness through emerging social media like blogging, Twitter and Facebook.  I learn something new every day, thanks to the connectedness of many marketing and social media professionals in the age of Web 2.0.

At WSO2, I am responsible for the overall marketing strategy and operations.  This means that I write whitepapers, blog, edit the website, manage our roadmap for interactive content development, and train our engineers to be more vocal in their outbound evangelism.  Since joining, I have focused on product marketing, content creation and the development of our external communications strategy.

Prior to WSO2, I was one of the early employees at JBoss, and held various marketing positions of increasing responsibility over my years there.  I built our original lead generation and qualification engine with Eloqua, and  created our monthly newsletter and online education webinar series.  As a programs manager, I initiated our customer satisfaction program to ensure maximum subscriber renewal rates, and built a partner certification program for ISV and training partners.  I also led one of our most successful efforts to convert existing free users into paid subscribers with the “JBoss ON the Road” program.  In 2006, JBoss was acquired by Red Hat, and my role expanded to include global marketing programs for the middleware division.  I traveled to many of the Red Hat offices in Europe, APAC and South America to train Red Hat employees on how to sell and market JBoss middleware.

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with B.A. degrees in both political science and history, and wrote my thesis on the Cuban Revolution.  This has more to do with marketing than one would think, as the research and writing skills I developed help me immensely.

I’m an avid Tarheel basketball fan, and love the NFL (Panthers, Steelers, and my Meat Whistles fantasy team).  When not at work, you can find me in the kitchen, on a running trail, or possibly in Vegas for a UFC fight.
